The New Little Gaddesden Sports Pavilion

Little Gaddesden New Pavilion

As some of you may know we are trying to build a new Sports Pavilion at Little Gaddesden. It is taking a rather long time and i'm sure someone will write down the shaggy dog story some day. Suffice to say we are hoping to have a brand new building that will house all the sport clubs that use the Village sports field. Football, Cricket, Tennis and Bowls will share a state of the art sports Pavilion on roughly the current site of the existing Bowls Pavilion and the Bowls changing rooms. The existing cricket & football Pavilion will be removed with the land it currently occupies being used by the Parish Council to relieve some of the traffic issues that currently blight Church Road.

It is planned that the new pavilion will have four changing rooms, two sets of showers, an officials/treatment room, a small bar, a kitchen and club room. The club room will be capable of supporting both a Bowls club tea and a Cricket tea at the same time.

The design has a very low profile roof to allow the building to sit low in the field, maintaining as much as possible the beautiful views of the Church and surrounding fields. It looks out on both on the Bowls Green and on to the Sports Field giving an ideal viewing platform for the all sports activities.

Its' location was selected to complement the great work the Parish Council has done with the car park and new children's play area. Giving a secure area where children and parents can play with good parking away from the road.

An initial feasibility study was undertaken and set out the key design parameters. Next a detailed survey of the Sports field and the underlying sub-soil was undertaken. Finally a detailed design of the proposed building has been produced. The project team were very keen to make sure the building looked "right" in its' location, and a number of 3D models have been produced with accompanying videos. These have helped the team evolve and change the design in order to best meet everyone needs and concerns. The final video can be downloaded here and seen below.

Next we will meet with the Parish Council and Dacorum Council leading to the formal planning application. This is one of the most critical parts of the Project and hopefully after all the hard work these meetings will go well. If planning permission is granted this summer 2008 we will start construction in November 2009. The New Pavilion would open ready for the 2010 Cricket and Bowls sessions.
